Growatt Error 101: Communication Failure

Updated June 2026 · Reviewed for technical accuracy · ~2 min read

Error 101 is an internal communication failure: the two processors inside the Growatt (the master and slave control chips) lost their link with each other. This is internal to the inverter, not your home network or monitoring app. A proper full power-down often clears it.

What it usually means

  • A transient internal comms glitch that a complete restart resolves.
  • A firmware or board issue if it keeps returning.

What to do

  1. Fully power the inverter down. Turn off the AC breaker, then the DC isolator, and wait until the screen is completely off and stays off for 5 minutes. A complete power-down matters here, not just a quick toggle.
  2. Power back up (DC isolator first, then AC breaker) and see whether Error 101 returns.
  3. If it keeps coming back, contact your installer or Growatt. A persistent internal comms fault may need a firmware update or board service.

FAQ

Is Error 101 about my Wi-Fi or the monitoring app?

No. Error 101 is communication inside the inverter, between its own processors. A monitoring or Wi-Fi dropout shows differently (often a warning about the meter or datalogger), not Error 101.

⚠️ Safety disclaimer. Solar inverters carry lethal DC and AC voltage even when "off". This guide covers a safe full power cycle only. Persistent internal faults must be handled by a licensed installer or Growatt technician.
